THE OFFICE OF FAMILY SERVICES AND CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES TREATS MENTAL ILLNESS DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHER FORMS OF ABUSE

Recently, I discovered that sexual abuse (if a parent claims mistake and even if confirmed and admitted) seems to be acceptable to Child Protective Services and the New York State Office of Family Services.

Years ago, there was a young male who had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (“ADHD”) who was given the wrong medication by a doctor who has now lost his license.  It turns out that the medication prescribed causes mood disorders and depression with persons with ADHD.  He suffered behavioral issues because of the wrongly prescribed drugs.

The single mother, who was poor and black, fought and fought and did the best she could to get doctors to testify so that Child Protective Services would not remove the child from her home and so she could get adequate medical treatment for her son.  She lost and the boy was put in an institution.  She finally got him back after vicious litigation and he is doing well.  Who your lawyer is will determine your results.

There are vastly different treatment of children raised in single parent homes by mothers with un-involved fathers and children who are diagnosed (or in this case misdiagnosed) with mental health issues.

ADHD is a neurological condition, which if not treated properly leads to all sorts of unfortunate consequences.

Why do we continue to discriminate against poor single mothers?

The sexually abusing male of a young minority female is just going on with his merry life.
